We publish freely accessible peer-reviewed original research and review articles on all aspects of basic sleep science and clinical sleep medicine.
SMR provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Why we are an open access journal

Open Access benefits the entire research community. Authors benefit because their works are freely available to all scholars with internet access throughout the world, regardless of their financial resources. Because of this wider community of readership, their research articles are more likely to be cited, increasing the authors’ exposure and maximizing the value of their research efforts.
In the same way, international readers benefit not only because the reading material is free, but because it is simple to access through an internet search, not hidden behind commercial websites that require a login and subscription or limited to access through the university library.
Open Access to scientific information benefits society at large as well. It breaks down the barrier between professional scientists and the public, in that laypeople who are interested in educating themselves can read about the latest scientific breakthroughs. In addition, the scientific community can move forward in their investigations efficiently, working toward a better quality of life for the broader society through scientific advancement, an important goal of SMR.
Choosing Open Access puts SMR on the cutting edge of scientific publishing trends. We hope that this will lead other journal editorial boards in Korea and beyond to make the same move, guaranteeing that Open Access becomes the standard across the scientific disciplines.
