A New Horizon of Sleep Medicine Research
Article information
I am very pleased to write a message of celebrating this inaugural publication of the Sleep Medicine Research (SMR) to the members of the Korean Society of Sleep Medicine (KSSM) and many specialists in all the fields related to sleep medicine. As SMR is the official journal of the KSSM, I would like to express my deep gratitude for the Editorial Board of SMR. It has not been possible to have this meaningful first issue in 2010 without their dedicated help.
The KSSM was founded in 2005, and it has become a great scientific organization of seep medicine field, which includes several specialties: Neurology, Psychiatry, Otolaryngology, Internal medicine, Pediatrics, and Dental medicine. The annual scientific meeting of the KSSM is growing in its quality and quantity every year, and its member-ship is increasing rapidly. Furthermore, the collaboration among the scientists from different specialties, and their efforts for making the KSSM an organization with a high scientific reputation are becoming greater. Therefore, the KSSM had successfully hosted the 9th World Congress of Sleep Apnea in 2009, and the KSSM is considered as one of well recognized professional sleep societies. The SMR is another remarkable outcome, which has been resulted from continuous scientific efforts of the KSSM.
Along with this scientific effort, the KSSM was recently nominated as the host organization for the 6th International Congress of Sleep Medicine, which will be held in Seoul in 2015. The World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM), which has made this decision, will keep a good partnership with us continuously. I believe the Sleep Medicine Research will be one of the best international journals to accelerate the growth of both basic and clinical sleep medicine in the near future. And, the SMR will open a new horizon in the sleep medicine field next decade, and will give all the benefits back to the patients who suffer from sleep disorders through an extraordinary progress in this field.
